Public works - the next rennaisance has arrived and "public" art and architecture is infusing the minds and imaginations of artists, architects, public officials, builders and of course the people who come to inhabit and enjoy the spaces being created for them.
GOMA – Gallery of Modern Art
Builder: Bovis Lend Lease
Brisbane's iconic Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) has lead the charge with its striking design so much so that its architectural features and spaces are widely discussed and debated amongst everyone! The "black box" as it is commonly referred to is a stand out feature and the result of best practice collaboration between architect, builder and contractor to deliver this design and place it in the public realm. Aclad were asked to advise on its construction and very quickly seized upon the right chemistry of building products and construction methods that has since proven to be a success.
The team at Bovis were eager to hear from industry about sound product recommendations which delivered the architectural intent whilst keeping costs in tune with the client's budget.
With many contacts internationally the final products were sourced and installed by Aclad to the facade, specifically the “Black Box” and the extensive main soffit areas.
The team at Aclad travel internationally to stay abreast of market trends and find credible suppliers of many different material types.
The GOMA building is a result of such knowledge and investment in research. GOMA utilized European Anodizing Technology for the Black Box, and Honeycomb technology with Natural Zincalume sheet for the 4000 m2 of soffit.
Result: the highly respected GOMA building was a positive outcome for all those involved.
